You’re not going find the secret to health and vitality in some magic potion derived from the exoskeleton of a prehistoric crustacean found in a deep ocean cavern or in some exotic berry harvested from the rain forest canopy of Bolivia. People waste a lot of time and money searching for the one thing that’s going to make them healthy or keep themblueredpill healthy - sorry, it ain’t gonna happen. Meanwhile, MLMers and mass marketers are raking in the bucks, until the scam runs its course.

What it takes generate health is multifaceted combination of many factors pretty much familiar to most people. It’s called a healthy lifestyle. But we’d like to beat the system with some newly discovered something or other so we can get away with living however we like. Sorry again. Like King Solomon said, “there’s nothing new under the sun,” or was that Bob Dylan?

We need to get Back to Basics (hey, I like the sound of that). The Basics are good nutrition, adequate exercise, a healthy nervous system, a sound mind, and a nurturing spirit.

We’ll cover these topics one at a time, but, first we need to understand that a human being is composed of 3 basic parts. These are body, soul and spirit. These parts are inseparable and need to be considered holistically in our approach to a healthy lifestyle. A long time ago, in order to conduct human dissection, the medical profession convinced the church that body, soul and spirit were separate entities. This line of thinking continues to this day, and has sophisticated itself into the high degree of specialization that we see in modern medicine. The truth is that the body is one interdependent organism, and that the human is one interdependent being.

Good Nutrition
The foods you eat are the raw materials your body uses to make itself as old cells die and new ones regenerate, to repair itself, to manufacture all the chemicals, hormones, etc. it needs to function. You truly are what you eat. So, don’t eat junk!fruit_veggies

Eat natural, unadulterated, unrefined, whole foods. Eat a clean diet - free of chemicals, preservatives, additives and GMOs. Read the labels, if you can’t pronounce it or God didn’t make it, don’t eat it. Eat a wide variety - every food has its unique nutritional contribution to make. Eat organic whenever possible - organic produce has twice the nutrition as commercial, so if it’s less than twice the price, it’s a better value. Certified organic is also GMO free.

Supplements. It’s difficult to eat everything we need. For example, the latest recommendation for fruits and vegetables is 10-15 servings per day - are you kidding me?! So, I take a whole food supplement. Whole food is the key. Your body doesn’t know what to do with rocks and chemicals, which much of what is sold as supplements are. I take the following every day: Juice Plus+ or equivalent, cod liver oil, probiotics, enzymes, chlorella, hydrolyzed collagen and plant derived minerals.

There is so much to say about nutrition that I could write a book, but i won’t. This is a good start, so start with it. Please understand that food is for supplying your body with what it needs to live fully. It’s not for satisfying a soulful desire for pleasure. Eat wisely.

Adequate Exercise
Your body was designed to move and to work. In this present culture none of us have to do much of either. It is essential for each of us to exercise daily. Most need an hour or so of vigorous activity every day. This depends on the activity. For example, an hour of running or swimming, an hour and a half of biking, two hours of walking. Whatever your activity, it must be a daily routine.958x450_slide002

The benefits are virtually countless. Many body functions are dependent on body movement, such as, venous and lymph circulation. Exercise is essential for heart and circulatory health, respiratory health. It is beneficial for brain health, kidney function, mood, body weight and more. It is helpful in many afflictions, including diabetes, fibromyalgia, arthritis, depression. I use my running time for prayer time, which blesses my whole day.

Healthy Nervous System
Your nervous system is what connects your brain to your body. Your brain controls everything and gives life to every cell, tissue and organ. You cannot be healthy without the function provided by your brain and nerve system. When any part of your body is deprived its full nerve supply, it deteriorates and becomes unhealthy and diseased.

When a nerve becomes impinged, the flow of nerve energy decreases and its function is interfered with. Chiropractic care locates and removes nerve impingement thereby restoring nerve flow and function. Regular chiropractic visits are essential to the health and function of your body. Visit your chiropractor at least once a month.

Sound Mind
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2Tim1:7
I speak here of mind, emotions, and will otherwise known as the soul. Remember we are triune beings - body, soul, spirit. Heretofore, we’ve discussed aspects of a healthy body. Now we’re into soul. Since body, soul and spirit are one, all that you do for your body benefits also the soul. Notice in your own experience how a body that feels good affects your mental and emotional states, and how it increases your willingness to do what you want to do and need to do.

One of the most powerful access points you have to influence your soul is your attitude! Read the famous Charles Swindoll poem. You are in charge of your attitude. You awake each day with the ability create your attitude, and you maintain that ability moment to moment. It’s your choice.

The most powerful avenues to a healthy soul is in its relationship to the spirit. I am convinced that we were designed to have our spirit in charge of our soul. Your soul is the worldly part of you, and your spirit is the heavenly part. a born-again spirit leads you toward God; an unregenerate soul moves into the world. Jesus is the best example of soul versus spirit in the garden of Gethsemane:
Then He said to them, "My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me." 39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will." Mt26:38,39
You can see that His soul was crying out, but He took charge by His spirit. “nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”

Think of the times you have set aside your feelings for what you you know is right. That is putting your spirit in charge! Jesus said, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.” The word “life” is the Greek “psuche” meaning soul. Listen to your spirit and tell your soul to shut up.

Nurturing Spirit
Doing the above will strengthen and develop your spirit. It’s like working out, the more more you do it, the stronger you get. Strive to exercise your spirit as much as possible and watch what happens.

The simplest and most straightforward approach of building your spirit is building your relationship with God by reading His word. Draw near to Him and He will draw near to you, and He’ll pour out His spirit upon you.

Another great way to draw near to God is through praise & worship. It’s truly amazing! Try this: next time your soul has you under its thumb, put on your favorite worship CD, stand up and worship Him with all you’ve got. Watch your spirit rise up and overcome your soul. Hallelujah, right?

So, this was way longer than I thought it would be, and I feel like we just scatched the surface. Nonetheless, if you incorporate just what is presented here into your life, you be living a healthy lifestyle. Healthier than 99% of the planet! Be greatly blessed.
